Adjuster Assignment
What is
Adjuster Assignment
?
Adjuster assignment is the workflow that routes a newly triaged claim to the appropriate staff or independent adjuster, factoring in specialization, availability, jurisdiction, and claim complexity.
After a claim is triaged and classified, it needs to reach the right person. A large commercial property loss requires a different adjuster profile than a straightforward personal auto collision. A claim in a state with specific regulatory requirements needs an adjuster licensed in that jurisdiction. Getting the assignment wrong costs time and creates rework.
Manual assignment typically falls to a supervisor or team lead who reviews the incoming queue, checks adjuster capacity, and makes decisions based on current workload and experience. At scale, this becomes a daily coordination burden that delays claims and creates uneven distribution across the team.
Automated adjuster assignment applies the same logic the supervisor would use, but executes it at the moment the claim is received. The system checks the claim characteristics established during triage, evaluates available adjusters against those criteria, and routes the claim directly. The adjuster receives a structured case briefing rather than a raw report.
For carriers and TPAs managing large claim volumes, this removes a manual coordination step that previously required supervisory time every day. It also produces more consistent workload distribution, because the system does not allow assignment preferences or familiarity to override objective capacity rules.
FAQs
Can automated adjuster assignment account for individual adjuster specializations?
Yes. The routing logic is configured with each adjuster's designated coverage types, geographic authority, complexity tier, and licensing, so the system only routes claims that match the adjuster's defined scope.
How does the system handle assignment when all qualified adjusters are at capacity?
Overflow rules are configured in advance. The system can route to a backup pool, flag the claim for supervisor review, or queue it with a priority indicator based on claim severity.
Does automated assignment work for independent adjusters as well as staff adjusters?
Yes. Independent adjuster networks can be included in the routing pool with the same criteria applied, including territory, line authority, and current caseload reported through the system.
